Grass-Fed

LSQA created its Grass-Fed Certification to ensure that the milk you consume comes from farms where cows are grass-fed and have access to pastures every day of the year. The certification ensures that 80% or more of the milk comes from certified farms and that the diet of milking cows consists of 85% or more grass, excluding animal-origin foods. Furthermore, the use of hormones and antibiotics as growth promoters is prohibited unless endorsed by current regulations and under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Traceability is a key aspect of certification, as livestock and collected and transported milk are tracked. Animal welfare is also guaranteed, as cows have access to water, food, and space for proper social interaction of the herd. Dairy production promotes the settlement of families in rural areas.

Certification is carried out through a group audit scheme, where each farm adheres individually. Audits cover aspects related to the identification of the establishment, herd feeding, absence of the use of hormones and antibiotics as growth promoters, livestock traceability, animal welfare, and the social dimension. Corporate processes related to product chain of custody assurance and absence of antibiotics in milk are also audited.
